Hate crime not only harms its victims, but it also harms families and communities. Hate crimes are not just offensive, they are an offence!
The We’re Listening campaign involves partners, communities and individuals working together to raise awareness, encourage reporting and to take a ‘zero-tolerance’ approach to tackling hate crime in all its forms.
What is hate crime?
A hate crime is any criminal offence which is perceived by the victim, or anybody else, to be motivated by hostility or prejudice towards someone’s:
- race
- religion
- sexual orientation
- transgender identity
- disability
A hate crime can include verbal abuse, intimidation, threats, harassment, assault and damage to property.
Why join our campaign
Why we are listening
Bradford is a district of diversity, of geography, history, politics, race and culture. It is this cultural diversity that makes Bradford such an interesting and rewarding place to live, work and play. Those who commit hate crimes attack the fundamental values that underpin our diverse society including acceptance and respect for others.
Bradford Hate Crime Alliance is committed to tackling hate crime across our district over the next three years and beyond. The We’re Listening campaign enables us to work with our partners and with you to build safe, inclusive communities which respect the different experiences of gender, culture, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation and disability.
By working together, we can effectively tackle hate crime in our district.
We’re listening will help us to:
- prevent hate crime
- respond to hate in our communities
- increase the reporting of hate crime
- improve support for the victims of hate crime
- build our understanding of hate crime
